About the Film
Blood Berries (53 minutes) documents the experiences of Thai workers—primarily from northeastern Thailand—who travel to Finland and Sweden for seasonal berry picking. Many incur significant debt to secure these opportunities, only to encounter exploitative conditions and, in some cases, human trafficking.
Filmed over more than three years, the documentary follows the workers’ efforts to seek accountability and justice. These efforts have contributed to legal action in Finland and ongoing public and political debate in Thailand.

Hathairat Phaholtap is the editor of The Isaan Record. Blood Berries has been nominated for the Best Director Award for a Human Rights Documentary at the Montreal Women’s Film Festival.
